The OLPC Gets More User Friendly With The Windows XP Operating System – Gizmo Watch

The OLPC Gets More User Friendly With The Windows XP Operating System – Gizmo Watch: “Taking the very popular Windows XP operating system to underprivileged kids in developing countries, Microsoft has entered the One-Laptop-Per-Child project. Until now, we had these inexpensive laptops running on the open source Linux operating system as the expensive Windows operating systems made the project unviable. The use of Windows XP would eliminate the few drawbacks like the difficult user interface and lack of enough softwares that Linux brought along. Also, the huge range of educational softwares that exclusively run on Windows make it a very compelling choice. Meanwhile, Windows XP will run directly off a 2 Gb MicroSD card that the low cost laptop will feature. The OLPC now becomes a dual boot system which will run both the Linux and the Windows operating systems. This development also augurs well for the monopolistic Microsoft which is desperately trying to change its image. All in all, a welcome development to help the millions of impoverished students.”
