Backup Storage’s Muscle Power: 3TB RAIDPac – Gizmo Watch: “Highly Reliable Systems has a world record to its credit now. To its credit is registered a backup system that has the largest capacity for any removable media. The high performance system that the company has created makes use of a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID). The capacity of RAID based removable cartridge is a staggering 3 Terabytes. Hold on, if compressed, the cartridge can hold up to 5 TB of data. All this capacity does not mean any increase in the physical dimensions and RAIDFrame is same size as a normal high end drive. This system attaches directly to a workstation or fileserver using an eSATA cable that transfers stuff at 3 Gigabits per second. In emergencies it may also be connected via USB 2.0 port.

This system is a panacea for several companies’ storage needs. The fact is that when the storage needs of a company swell, it must resort to methods like backing to a tape or over the internet. Each of these comes with severe constraints like safety of the data or a need to move it overnight and so on and so forth. Tom Hoops, company’s CTO, puts down the advantages of a RAID system quite clearly when he says,
No special drivers are needed since the RAIDFrame is “seen” by the host system as a single removable hard drive. Unlike tape systems, RAIDPacs can be accessed in an emergency even if the RAIDFrame itself has been destroyed. Simply open the RAIDPac to expose an industry standard SATA connection and a molex power connector that is useable on any PC to gain access to the data.
Any company that wishes to bid adieu to its storage problems once and for all can order these 3TB RAIDPac for $2,306. The devices are shipping and it is no use sticking it out with status quo.
