Kage Roi – An Intelligent Brainstorming System – Gizmo Watch

Kage Roi – An Intelligent Brainstorming System – Gizmo Watch: “Brainstorming sessions are an important part of a company’s planning and strategy development. However, during a brainstorming session, the members might run out of ideas, reach a deadlock, or simply they might not be able to think further. IT Company Kayac has teamed up with Keio University and developed a system, Kage Roi, which might help in brainstorming sessions. It would, when it materializes, listen to the members and bombard them with related data and images to help them generate new ideas. The system would rely upon speech recognition software, which would identify keywords and search the net and present the info on the table. The system is meant to be aesthetic and also features an ambient, multi coloured LED lighting system that is designed to encourage creativity by altering the ambiance and mood in the room. The company plans to manufacture and market it in the near future.

Kiva’s Mobile Robots Ensure Effective Retail Management – Gizmo Watch

Kiva’s Mobile Robots Ensure Effective Retail Management – Gizmo Watch: “management is a critical operation. It involves effective use of human resources to provide greater customer’s satisfaction. To help retailers, Kiva Systems has developed a set of low-cost mobile robots. Dubbed as Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System (MFS), these robots work collectively to transport goods directly to workers ensuring easy and efficient access to all inventory items round the clock. These robots are highly useful for eCommerce applications that demand single-order, accuracy and speed. Kiva’s orange robots bring items automatically to the warehouse workers. They don’t need move here and there inside the store. This robotic approach saves time and energy and increases workers’ productivity.
Kiva has developed these robots in line with WiFi technology. When the workers order for an item, the robots are informed through a Kiva server over a WiFi network. Then they take the products automatically.
US-based leading online retailer Zappos has very recently adopted Kiva Mobile Fulfillment System at one of its distribution centers for effective store management.

Ultrasonic Neuro-navigation System To Work On GPS Principles – Gizmo Watch

Ultrasonic Neuro-navigation System To Work On GPS Principles – Gizmo Watch: “Hospitals might not have to spend precious funds on expensive neuro-surgery equipment thanks to a mechanical engineer from the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Ajay Mahajan, a professor has developed an ultrasonic-based locational system to identify problems within the brain and thankfully it isn’t too invasive. Though neuro-navigation for brain mapping is not new, the technique involves using a camera, which invites human error. Mahajan’s system replaces the camera with a head restraint from which ultrasonic sensors branch off and map a probe’s movement through the brain in three dimensions. It works like the GPS system except that instead of satellites, ultrasonic receivers are used. It might cost just about 10% of what a neurosurgery equipment might cost. The project is still in a nascent stage and the prototype has not been created either.”

Telexistence Realized – Gizmo Watch

Telexistence Realized – Gizmo Watch: “Have you ever wanted to be sitting in your home and be able to put on a helmet and be on the other side of the world? Researchers globally are working on such a thing whether it is half way around a virtual, real or a combination. Telexistence is where you are able to be in two places at one time and be able to have a real-time sensation of being at a place other than where you physically are, and being able to interact with your surroundings whatever they may be. Telesar is a prototype robot that does exactly this. Telesar may be the new ‘wave’ of the future by getting groceries for you, and going into the office to get things you may have left. You could just sit at home, and drive it to wherever you would want to go and it would be just like you were actually there getting it yourself. But this scenario not only saves stress of driving, but saves gas for going in.”
